What Is The Ben Hill County Extension?
We are a unique partnership in
education, in which the
University of Georgia cooperates with the
U.S.
Department of Agriculture and local county governments in bringing resources
to help find solutions to the problems and needs of Ben Hill Countians and all
Georgians.
We are an informal, educational service through which knowledge is transmitted
or communicated directly to the people. Our programs are practical,
problem-centered and situation -based.
Our philosophy is to work with the people at various levels of education and
achievement, and through education help them to help themselves. Our educational
effort encompasses comprehensive missions in five major areas–agriculture and
natural resources, environment, family and consumer sciences, 4-H and youth
development, and community.
The University of Georgia County’s Extension staff include D. Scott Carlson,
Coordinator, and Alva E. Heidel, Extension Agent , Wanda McLemore, Secretary,
Jeri Gilleland, 4-H Program Assistant.
Subject matter specialists and administrators are located on the UGA campus, at
the Rural Development Center, the Georgia Southern and Fort Valley State
campuses and other key sites. These support personnel serve as a bridge linking
subject matter research departments with local extension agents.
